Hi, I'm Katja Bethnas
A Little bit about me.
I was born and raised in Denmark, we always had dogs growing up but I own my passion and understanding of the Belgian Malinois to my big brother, my big brother served as a K9 handler in the Danish Airforce, for the most of my life, in his free time he would train and compete in different dog sports, so this was a lot of my upbringing and the first Malinois I ever met was when I was dog sitting for my brother, he had just got a Belgian Malinois with the name Unik du Haut de l'Arize and the love for this breed never left, Unik was a smaller Malinois and in my eyes a fantastic sports dog and was fantastic as a family dog at the same time, her and my brother accomplished amazing things, even my sister in-law competed with Unik.
So, when I came to adulthood it was natural for me to seek to train and learn everything I could from my brother about this breed and about different dog sports.
I went through training classes in PH and went through a few tests in PH with some of my Malinois back in Denmark to Monitoring became a thing in Denmark and I loved that sport it was much more my style of sport.
it was about that time that I ended up with one of my Malinois that I will always miss and never forget Daneskjold Etna this dog was amazing to work with and with my brother, and training friends and family she became a dog I today am very proud of.
In 2014 I moved from Denmark to Montana it was not as easy to find training friends and clubs here as it was back in Denmark.
In 2016 I made the decision to donate Etna to our local sheriff department very she was loved and had a short work career before her handler retired and was allowed to let Etna retire with him.
I went a few years without having a Belgian Malinois and it made it very clear to me that this breed was missing in my life, so I started to find a kennel that could provide the lineage that I wanted and that my brother knew the lines of and with the qualities that I wanted for what I wanted in a Malinois.
in 2018 I Got Jael and at that time breeding was still not on my mind.
on the side I worked with rescues of this breed to try to make a defense for this fantastic breed.
then in 2020 I made the decision that I wanted to make a difference to our Malinois over here and I wanted to see more Malinois with good temperament that could still be great work/sport dogs while functioning in a family home.
so, in 2021 we imported Thor from Serbia and Apex K9 Center was born.
